Reflective Essay- 2nd 3-week Cycle
When the 3-week cycle first started, our original story was going to be on the community dinner before thanksgiving. After emailing the director of that event, we found out that it had passed and we needed a new story now. Lissette and I decided to record the 2nd Annual Wrestling Alumni Match. We were well prepared to record this as we had all our interview questions and b-roll shots ready. We knew what we wanted to record and what our story was going to be on. We didn’t have a hard time getting our interviews done. We were going to interview Coach Roman but he said he was busy so we interviewed Coach G instead. B-roll shots seemed kind of repetitive because most of it was just the wrestling matches and those get boring sometimes. Lissette and I did shoot the other things that were there like the bake sale and the store which sold wrestling shirts. A problem we had was whether or not we wanted to use the tripod. We decided not to take it as we believed that we could shoot without it. We could've done a little bit better with the framing of the shots, they were off and they didn’t follow the rule of thirds. When we got to editing, it took me 4 full classes to get it done. Lissette recorded voiceovers and also fixed up some of the editing mistakes I made. The next day it aired and that was it.

Originally, Deonte and I were going to go to Princeton and record the basketball game there and a couple interviews. Something went wrong with the bus and it didn’t come at all to pick us up. We quickly had to change our story. Mr. Wilson suggested we do a segment called “Man on the Street”. We decided to do that even though it was completely new to us. The question we decided to do was “What are your new years resolutions?” We recorded everything and it came out okay considering it was the first time we did something like this and that we had a very short period of time to record and edit. We could've done many things to make sure we produced a better video such as have followup questions and set up better locations to shoot and also try to make the audio sound better because we had alot of backup noise. The video was aired that following Friday and I did get a couple “Good Job’s” from my teachers, so I did pretty good I assume.

Deonte and I went to Princeton university and recorded the girls swim meet and basketball game. The point of the story was to learn about why Brian Taylor had created the club and started taking student athletes to the university. He wanted to show the students what it’s like to be a student athlete at an ivy league school as opposed to high school. During the trip to Princeton, we experienced some difficulties with recording our interviews due to the lack of spots we were able to record at. What we could've done to be better prepared was to ask someone who worked there before hand to see if they would be able to provide us with a room to record our interviews. We eventually got a quiet spot to set up our camera and record Mr. Taylor. Another issue we faced was the weak responses we got from the students. We didn’t want to have the entire story be just Mr. Taylor talking so we had to put their responses in because it was the only ones we had. The interview with Mr. Taylor went very well and we got a quality answer from him. In the end, editing, we had a very long story about 3-4 minutes and we got lots of b-roll shots over Brian Taylor talking.
